Interview with Muscat Bay interior designer H.H. Sayyida Wihad Al Said

We recently caught up with Wihad Al Said our Interior designer, and asked her a few questions about   her inspiring designs of the project’s interior.

Q: What led you on your path towards becoming an interior designer?

A: From a very young age I was always drawn to art and design. So, in pursuing this creative side, I studied interior design in Paris and also completing my masters in design management in the UK. I have now been in the interior design field for over eight years, working on high profile projects, and individual commissions.

Q: How would you define modern living from the point of view of an interior designer?

A: Modern open aspect living is the new trend in interior design and is continuing to grow in demand. Personally, my ideal home would be a spacious house with minimal furniture and calming colours.

Q: What is are the ideas behind the interior designs of the project’s various facilities?

A: The design for each show villa was crafted around a story, which is then reflected in its colours and finishing. Authentic Omani elements were then added to bring in a traditional touch. The Sales centre, on the other hand, was designed with big glass windows, so as to bring in the views of the mountains and sea; with a sympathetic turquoise colour palette to match.

Q: What in your opinion distinguishes the houses at Muscat Bay from others?

A: The Villas are modern with large windows, giving home owners the feeling of being surrounded by nature and serenity. They have infinity pools overlooking the lagoon and, in harmony with the surrounding mountains, the Villas sport natural colours with earth tones.

Q: How did you integrate/utilise the unique panoramic views that the project has to offer?

A: We did so by ensuring the villas sport colours, fitments, and designs that complement the view without drawing away from the natural splendour of the environment.

Q: Can you describe the interior designs of the project homes and the sales centre in three or four words each?

A: Modern, Omani, Homely, and Subtle, for the Villas; and Creative, Fun, Chilled and Welcoming, for the Sales centre.

Q: Can you describe the brands used for the interiors and the quality of the finishing?

A: We used several leading brands, ranging from Italian furniture brands to local Omani accessories. Together they give an air of modernity, with a touch of Omani heritage and culture. For villa finishes we used several high-end German and Italian brands, complemented by Omani marble, all of which were designed to blend in with the surroundings and the landscape.
